I’m in Ireland!
I’M IN IRELAND!!!
I have to say this twice because it still hasn’t quite sunk in for me, even though I’ve now been here for 7 whole days.
Feels great to be surrounded by the epic scenery and friendly locals!
Normally, when you go on holiday somewhere, you are suddenly released from your daily grind. But this feels different. Because I’ve been away from the hamster wheel (1 month since I quit my job) doing what I choose on a daily basis is not such a huge shock to the system. My background of long term self-employment and it’s odd-ball hours also plays it’s part in feeling at-ease with each day being my own.
On previous trips away from home, I’ve very rarely stayed in the same location for more than 24hrs, as I enjoy new places and the journey between – I see the gobbling up of new sights as part of the fun and exhilaration of a trip. I like to be exposed to as much fresh stuff as possible and hope some of it sticks to me somehow.
This time around, I am trying to put down the anchor and dig in my claws. I need to put the brakes on for cost sake and for extend roots, however spindly.
I always think when I travel that time takes on a different speed. You know the feeling? After two days of all the different experiences, your brain clock is fried by trying to soak it all up. I find it hard to remember the times of things and am blown away at the end of a day when I think back to the mornings events that seem a lifetime ago.
I am betting that if I stay in one place and allow my mind to become steady, comfortable and accustomed to it’s surroundings, I should be able to grasp the spinning top that is my brain and point it at it’s next goal: finding a job!
Also, there is a background feeling of pressure building, because I am aware my savings are dwindling rapidly.
So far, I’ve done 600 miles, visited Rosslare, Clifden, Ballyconeely, Galway City, Renvyle, Connemara National Park and have met some great people. I have nothing to say about Ireland other than so far, the grass really is greener than back home!
Enjoying the updates, keep them coming!
